Exam’s over and as a celebration, one wallpaper is whipped up.

It’s one verse that has hit me quite hard, so I have been contemplating on memorizing it word for word.

This project dated back in April 2008, is an opportunity to help design a poster for an exhibition about Asia by NUS Overseas College in Stockholm.

Experiencing Asia is the keyword for the design of this poster, however, the “talk singapore” part is still important.

What I have done is to create a “fusion’ between the different cultures existed among the different NOC students’ nationalities.

See  if you can find any element that represent Singapore, Indonesia, China, Malaysia, etc.

Friends over at Singapore Management University were working on the Welcome Tea of their newly established club called Diaspora. The main idea behind Diaspora is basically on campus Christian Fellowship for international students.

Since they needed it rather urgent, I decided to work on it as soon as I got the details. Multi-ethnicity, international, different flags. Lots of ideas were thrown about but none really works.

Finally, I resorted to a simple black-and-white collage of photos, expressions, not just photo of each person, but each with their own dynamics contrasted to each other. I guess that represented the club more.

I have been wanting to do this since ages and today’s a good day as I’m taking a break from studying after my midterm today. I remembered getting an inspiration for the theme of this work through reading my Music 10 Textbook on Bach, how he always ended every piece with a signature “Soli Deo Gloria” meaning Glory to God Alone.

I decided to name this PSD theme Soli Deo Gloria and aimed to design a layout which is mainly a blog with several simple information about the author and how to contact him/her.

The design is supposedly more realistic:

• Wood as background instead of just gradient/colors
• Leather/Skin with stitches as the navigation buttons
• Words that looked like they are carved on to the wood (Logo) or permanently deformed the material (Navigation Buttons)
• Date and Month on a glass-like button on the edge of each post
• The colour green and brown, showing trees or in other word, Life

All in all, I’m rather satisfied with the design and layout of this theme and hopefully I can find time to convert the whole PSD into for publishing using Wordpress. That’s another tough challenge

For fundraising purposes, the Indonesian Students’ Christian Fellowship (ISCF) in National University of Singapore (NUS) as known as NUS-ISCF decided to sell their very own t-shirt to current members as well as their alumni. This is to help support the cost of organizing their annual camp and other miscellaneous fees.

The task is rather tricky as to keep the cost low, only one colour can be used.
Thus the first idea is to play with the typography and these few designs came about.

After getting some of the committee members to vote, we’re down to last feedback. The design seems too organizational. They wanted a personal/affectionate feeling to it and suggested ‘i <3′ addition to the design.

After yet another round of votings, the design is finalized and a quick web-ad is created along with a promotional video.

Northern Opticians is a company based in Singapore selling eyewear products as well as offering services for eye care. This time, the task is to create a promotional website and an online store together with it. An e-commerce website, in short.

We use Joomla as the Content Management System and Virtuemart for the e-commerce part. The design is simple for the sake of user-friendliness.

The online store is still under construction but the promotional part of the website is finished.

Sometimes in life we get too excited or even overwhelmed with our daily activities, doing the things we love, the things we hate, getting busy all day and it’s just as if doing nothing is a huge crime. Somewhere along our day to day activities, we lost sight of why we are doing all those, why are we working so hard? why do we aim for good grades? why are we earning so much money? or why do we JUST have to do something? It is a terrible ignorance to brush these thoughts off by saying “I’m just doing for the sake of it”. People need to think and reflect on their lives lest they grow old, look back and regret. The point of no return.

Yes, I am refering to myself here. I need to stop and relook at my original motivation in doing things. Why is doing things so important to me. Along that line, I remember this verse from the Bible. It may be a cliche to most Christians, but maybe it is the least understood, or the hardest to obey.

So, along that line again, I made up this simple wallpaper, clearer on full view, and as usual 1280*800 and 1280*960 for widescreen and non-widescreen. I love how mac comes with a desktop where we can have changing wallpapers for a specified time without any additional programs and stuff, this makes me even more motivated to make more wallpapers. I hope with this we can all be reminded of what is supposed to be our “aim” in life.

So, we were asked to come out with a few multimedia and web publicity materials for FES Singapore to commemorate its 50th anniversary (1959-2009). The theme is Recalling History, Proclaiming His Story.

First up, is the logo design. It’s just a simple plant with 2 leaves in the shape of a cross, and the word fes 50th. This design, to me, not only portrays an evergreen Christian organization but also to show how the cross gives life (the plant is cross, and life at the same time). The last bit actually highlights the part of “proclaiming His Story”.

Next, is the poster. It had been initially designed by another person but due to unforeseen circumstances, he was not able to finish it and I was given the job. The only essence I took from the previous design is the old-looking tree, which shows that although it has grown big, it is still green.

Then comes the website. This website serves as a portal of information about the events around the 50th anniversary and at the same time serves as a registration site for people interested in the events. The website uses Wordpress as it’s CMS and the design follows pretty much the color and design of the logo and poster.
